In its Insuring Disaster 2024 report published today, the UK NGO ShareAction analyses the responsible investment policies of the world’s 23 leading life insurers. With a score of 51/100, CNP Assurances tops the ranking thanks to its climate and biodiversity commitments.

ShareAction assesses the responsible investment policy of each insurer from different angles, including climate, biodiversity, social, governance and commitment. While half of the life insurers obtained a D, E or F rating, only three, including CNP Assurances, received a B rating:

As a reminder, CNP Assurances is committed to combating climate change, with the following objectives:
•    Reduce the carbon footprint of its internal operations by 50% between 2019 and 2030 (Scope 1 and 2 location-based) 
•    Achieve a carbon neutral investment portfolio by 2050
•    Reduce the carbon footprint (Scope 1 and 2) of its directly held portfolio of equities, corporate bonds and infrastructure by 53% between 2019 and 2029
•    Engage with eight companies and three asset managers every year to encourage them to adopt a strategy aligned with the 1.5° C scenario by the end of 2024
•    Achieve zero direct exposure to thermal coal in its investment portfolio by 2030 in EU and OECD countries and by 2040 in the rest of the world
•    Reach €30bn in green investments by the end of 2025  

CNP Assurances is also committed to protecting biodiversity through the following objectives:
•    Measure the biodiversity of 100% of forests held directly in France by the end of 2025
•    Devote 3% of directly held forests in France to ageing islands and natural evolution areas by the end of 2025
•    Engage with five companies every year to encourage them to adopt a strategy aligned with international biodiversity agreements by the end of 2024
•    Publish targets by the end of 2024 according to the recommendations of the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge to increase positive impacts and reduce negative impacts on biodiversity
