Sustainable development is
a major challenge for our future. Companies have realised that pursuing
legitimate growth means taking into account the environmental and social impacts
of their business and meeting the needs of all their stakeholders, including
shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers and members of civil
society.
By virtue of its
experience, values and the very nature of its business, CNP Assurances adheres
to a strategy that is consistent with this worldview. By making it our mission
to insure people throughout their lives, we practice the principles of
sustainability day in, day out. This commitment is demonstrated in a variety of
programmes and actions that combine cost-effectiveness, social responsibility
and environmental stewardship.
Since 1988, we have been
implementing a sponsorship and philanthropy policy that reflects our corporate
identity and values, by supporting initiatives to improve access to healthcare
and raise the sensitivity of palliative care programmes. The CNP Foundation
(Fondation CNP pour la Santé), created under the aegis of
Fondation de France, is dedicated to supporting healthcare projects in the
public interest, mainly in the areas of prevention, research and patient care.
In recent years, it has focused on pain management.
|
It was therefore natural for us to pledge to support the United Nations Global Compact in mid-2003 and to
renew our commitment in 2007.
In doing so, we gave an undertaking to comply with the Compact's
ten principles: |
Human
rights
1. Businesses should
support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights;
and
2. Make sure that they are
not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labour
standards
3. Businesses should
uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to
collective bargaining;
4. The elimination of all
forms of forced and compulsory labour;
5. The effective abolition
of child labour; and
6. The elimination of
discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment
7. Businesses should
support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
8. Undertake initiatives
to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
9. Encourage the
development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Anti-corruption
10. Business should work
against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.
CNP Assurances' dedication
to corporate social responsibility has now been recognised by the SRI rating
agencies. The Company features among the top six insurers rated by Vigeo
Europe.

To demonstrate this
commitment every day, we have defined five critical areas that we believe will
be priorities for the Group going forward:
